FINANCIAL ISSUES - MARITAL PROPERTY V. SEPARATE PROPERTY

Question #324:
I live in the state of Ohio and got married in June 2014. My father had died in 2013 and we just recently sold his house and October 2014. My wife and I are now getting a divorce after seven months of marriageand I am about to inherit funds from the sale of my father's house and I was wondering if she is in titled to any of that money?

Answer:

If you keep the proceeds of the sale in a SEPARATE Account only in your name, and do not commingle it with your
Joint funds, it should be treated as Separate property, not marital property, and she would have no claim to it.

Good Luck!
